Rushed the calendar and need a clutch golf gift?

I’ve got you. This is my last-minute guide to shirts, pants, shoes, layers, clubs, and the little stuff that actually gets used. Trendy where it counts, classic where it lasts, and a few straight-up value bombs.

TP5/TP5x are now $44.99

If you know golf, you know the ball matters. TP5 and TP5x are the balls top players switch to when they want tour-level speed, control, and feel. And this holiday season, TaylorMade has dropped the price to just $44.99. Stock up now, for less, and make every round feel a lot more dialed in.

Shirts

Different styles on each of these. All fun.

I just really like the fit on this one. A little boxy, 73/27 cotton-to-poly, so going to be comfortable. It will be an excellent spring golf shirt.

It’s that time of year (COLD). If you’re looking for an extra layer, this may be your next best friend. Metalwood is just very cool, and this shirt looks fantastic. Gimme Gimme.

Can’t a man dream? This one can’t make up its mind about being a shirt or a sweater, but they call it a polo, so it lives in the shirts category, and it lives well.

100% wool, but again, thin enough to be a shirt. Come on now.

Pants

BETTER GOLF PANTS PLEASE.

I’m partial to the dune color, though all look nice. I appreciate the more casual, relaxed fit. Material that provides performance, but not the shiny golf pants we’re used to seeing. Not sure how shipping to the US goes, but we’re about to find out.

Uh oh, value alert: Walter Hagen Performance Golf Pants — $48

May not be the trendiest or the most fabulous pants you’ll see, but these guys dropped from $80 to $48 (FORTY EIGHT DOLLAR PANTS PEOPLE), and still have the nice straight leg I enjoy. If you haven’t noticed, I don’t LOVE things that fit really tight. The Lord blessed me with some larger legs, and anything relatively “slim” makes it look like I’m rocking some leggings.

So the straight leg pants will have to do. I’ve even considered dipping into the baggy game, to my wife’s distaste (and near alarm). If I were really aiming to step into that zone, I’d put Malbon’s Braxton Pants in there.

Manors, Hagen, Malbon

Shoes

We’ll keep it simple here. Are you a traditionalist? Stick with the FJ Premiere Series.

Into the newer age, streetwear/golf style? Try your luck with the Malbon X Sambas (or even the gazelles…

Somewhere in the middle? Care about style + performance, want something comfy, don’t want to crush the budget? The Adidas S2Gs — whether it’s the leather or synthetic stuff… great choice. These are what I’m rocking these days, and while my game isn’t at top shape, I’m certain the shoes aren’t to blame.

Manors/Samba, FootJoy, Adidas S2G.

You’d think adidas paid me. They didn’t.

As more Adidas lurk around the corner.

Sweaters/Qzips/Jackets

Devereux, Malbon, Adidas.

Call them your up-and-comers, your established, and your legacy players.

A piece you can wear any day, nearly any time of year. Super-solid layer, available in 3 simple colors. Good looking, mainly cotton, a little bit of poly, going to feel great… ON MY LIST.

Malbon Domenica Vest — $160 (limited sizes remaining).

Simple navy staple. Great if you’re trying to make a statement about how you care about style without stepping too far outside the box.

MORE ADIDAS? I don’t typically include legacy player stuff like Nike or Adidas, but this Adidas Original is a sweet one. Wind jacket that looks great with the collar up or down, fancy little button there to elevate it just a touch.

Devereux, Malbon, Adidas

I’m sure by now, y’all can tell I like a good neutral color. The QZip is more of an olive, and the wind shirt is more of a light brown.

Each has a few colors to choose from; I just went with my favorite.

Clubs

I’m a sucker for a good deal, and if MyGolfSpy says this is the best mallet putter in the game, and I can get it for 1/3 the price of most out there, I’m in.

I trust them. So what is it?

Come to Papa.

I’m good on irons, but need some wedges. I love my Mizuno irons and have heard nothing but splendid things about the Mizuno T-3 wedges.

Again, I trust MyGolfSpy. What can I say? I’ve got a decent 52 degree, so if I’m not trying to dive in head first, I may go for the 56 — a little more versatile than the 60, but different enough from the 52 to make a difference around the greens.

Accessories/Miscellaneous

I don’t have a good groove cleaner, and I don’t have a good golf towel.

I’ve heard incredible things about the Caddy Splash guys — the tools seem to do the trick, and the young men who started it (like me) seemed to fall in love with the game on the courses across Los Angeles. That, I can respect.

So throw a Caddy Splash in the stocking this year, please, honey.

I could throw in a CS towel, but I’ll get a little more fun than that. My favorite golf brand has a good towel. So that is the towel I will choose — The Manors Eighteenth Ranger Towel.

Gotta keep 'em clean!

Caddy Splash, Manor’s Towel.

Enjoy your shopping, my friends. And remember, you don’t have to be good at golf to look good while playing.
